Addressing Mental Health
Although widespread, mental illness remains poorly understood and undertreated among Tibetans in exile. With our support, new telepsychiatry services are being introduced in India by the CTA Department of Health. A digital platform enables qualified psychiatrists to give confidential teleconsultations in settlements, where access to counselling is limited or unavailable. Community health workers receive training in home-based counselling and peer supervision, and awareness events are organized to destigmatize mental illness among community leaders, teachers, students, parents, residents, and college students.
