Maternal and Child Health
The Tibet Fund works to improve the quality of reproductive, maternal, newborn, and child health care, benefitting thousands of Tibetan women and children in India and Nepal each year. Pregnant women receive safe delivery services and essential antenatal and postnatal care, including neonatal vitamins, injections, and counselling. Health workers coordinate gynecological and pediatric consultations, and reproductive-age women are screened for polycystic ovary syndrome. School girls and nuns are screened for anemia and treated with iron supplements.
In 2021 we launched the Every Mother and Child initiative in collaboration with the Central Tibetan Administration and Snow Lion Foundation. Breastfeeding mothers receive nutritional supplements to promote healthy infant growth and maternal health, and new mothers receive baby packages with sensorial toys, baby books, and essential health and hygiene items. More than 2,200 mothers and children have benefited from this support in India and Nepal. Please click here to watch a beneficiary review of the impact this initiative is having.
