Many Tibetans living in exile face poverty, deprivation, and other challenges that hinder their well-being, including orphans, newly-arrived children, and elderly Tibetans with no family support. The Tibet Fund established the Sponsorship Program in 1999 to address this cycle of social and economic deprivation. Through this program, The Tibet Fund has transferred over $5.7 million to nearly 80 institutions working in exile. This program is made possible by compassionate donors who provide hope and meaningful support to vulnerable Tibetans, including nutritious meals, clothing, healthcare, and other necessities. The program extends its support to Tibetan refugees in monastic institutions, schools, and rest homes, whose resources are stretched to the limits.
