The Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts (TIPA) was founded in India in 1959 with the aim of safeguarding Tibetan artistic heritage, particularly opera, dance, and music, following the Tibetan exile. TIPA provides training to children aged 11 to 17 in various performing arts disciplines while also offering education in the standard academic curriculum mandated by the Indian Government.

Ngawang is from Poanta, Himachal Pradesh, and he lives with his parents and younger brother, who is currently in fourth grade. His parents support the family through seasonal business ventures in Noida, Delhi. They rely solely on the income generated from October to December each year. After completing ninth grade at TCV School, Ngawang found his passion for dancing. He participated in an intercultural dance competition and contributed as a band member of the school music team. His ambition is to become a professional dancer and singer. To realize this dream, he auditioned at the prestigious institute and successfully passed the test. Ngawang is currently on a six-month probationary period at TIPA. He is diligently learning and acquainting himself with the intricacies of setting tunes for the lute, singing opera, and mastering new songs.
