Geshe Lhakdor Science Scholarship
The submission period for the Geshe Lhakdor Science Scholarship is now officially closed.
Bobby Sager and The Tibet Fund proudly announce the establishment of the Geshe Lhakdor Science Scholarship, honoring Geshe Lhakdor, Director of the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives (LTWA).
The scholarship honors Geshe Lhakdor’s pivotal role in advancing dialogue between science and spirituality, including his leadership in the Science for Monks and Nuns (SFMN) program. The award seeks to inspire the next generation of Tibetan scientists and scholars who will continue bridging traditional wisdom with modern scientific understanding.
About the Scholarship
The Geshe Lhakdor Science Scholarship supports outstanding Tibetan students pursuing Master’s degrees in science at recognized institutions in India. The scholarship aims to expand academic opportunities for Tibetan youth, strengthen scientific literacy, and foster a community of professionals contributing to the Tibetan scientific community in general and the SFMN program in particular.
One exceptional candidate will be selected to receive:
Up to INR 1,50,000 per annum, including:
Up to INR 80,000 toward tuition fees
Up to INR 70,000 as a living stipend
Additional support of up to INR 15,000 for summer internships or research purposes, subject to a separate application process.
In addition to financial support, the selected scholar will benefit from:
Mentorship and academic guidance from Geshe Lhakdor and other distinguished scientists and educators.
Professional development opportunities through academic and research networks.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be newly enrolled or formally accepted into a Master’s program in 2025 in one of the specified science-related fields at an accredited institution in India.
Eligible fields of study include Physics, Biology, Psychology, and Neuroscience, as well as related sub-disciplines.
Applicants must be Tibetan students from India, Nepal, or Bhutan, with an up-to-date Green Book (GB) contribution.
Applicants must have secured at least 60% in their Bachelor’s degree.
A complete application must include:
Statement of Purpose (maximum 500 words)
Two academic recommendations
Admission letter from the university
Copy of Bachelor’s degree and transcript
Application Deadline
All completed applications must be submitted by November 23, 2025.
Selection Process
The selection committee—comprising representatives from The Tibet Fund, Science for Monks and Nuns, and academic experts—will assess applicants based on academic merit, motivation for scientific study, and commitment to advancing the Tibetan community through science. The recipient will be announced in December 2025.
