Sera Jey Monastery was established in Bylakuppe, south India by monks who fled following the invasion and destruction of the original monastery in Tibet.  Today it is one of the largest Buddhist monastic institutions in India with a total member population of over 3500 monks.

Name: Geshe Jampa Kalang
Date of Birth: 1978      
Place of Birth: Tibet

Geshe Jampa was born in Kham Dhargyal in Tibet.  He fled into exile in 1993 and joined Sera Jey Monastery, where he became ordained as a monk the same year. On October 29, 2019, he was awarded the Geshe Degree. Currently, Geshe Jampa serves as a volunteer in the alternate medication department.

Place of Birth: India

Sangey hails from a Northeastern state of India. He has two sisters and his parents are primarily farmers. Sangey is currently studying at Sera Jey Monastery.

Name:Geshe Lobsang Ngodup
Date of Birth: Jan 8, 1975
Place of Birth: Tibet

Geshe Lobsang was born in Kham Dhargay, Tibet. He lost his parents at a young age and grew up with his brother and four sisters.  Despite his interest in ordination and becoming a monk, restrictions prevented him from pursuing his dream. In 1990, he escaped Tibet and joined Sera Jey Monastery.

Name: Thupten Jampa
Date of Birth: 1987    
Place of Birth: Tibet

Thupten is from the North Indian state of Sikkim.  He lost both his parents at a young age and has two sisters. Currently, he volunteers as a lab technician at Sera Jey health care center.

Name: Ngawang Damchoe
Date of Birth: 1990
Place of Birth: Tibet

Ngawang was born in Kham, Tibet, to nomadic parents. In 2000, he left Tibet to pursue studies in Buddhism and joined Sera Jey Monastery.

Name: Nyima Tashi
Date of Birth: March 10, 1990
Place of Birth: Tibet

Nyima was born in Lhasa, Tibet. He escaped to India in 1998 and became an ordained monk in the same year. He still has his mother, brother and a sister back in Tibet. Currently, Nyima serves as a volunteer staff member at Sera Jey health care center.
