Sera Mey Tsangpa Khangtsen was established in 1970 in Bylakuppe, south India and is one of the 16 houses of Sera Mey monastic college. Originally founded in Tibet to accommodate monks from Tsang and Tod provinces, only 15 of the 500 monks managed to escape to India due to the Chinese invasion. Of these, only five were able to revive Tsangpa Khangtsen in exile. Currently, the monastery accommodates over 170 monks.

Lobsang is from Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh and is currently studying in Grade VI at the monastic primary school. His parents, like many in their village, work in rice fields and are unable to bear the cost of his education. Nevertheless, Lobsang is determined to continue his studies and fulfill his dream of becoming a teacher.

Lhundup hails from Nepal and he is currently studying in Grade III at the monastic primary school. His parents work as daily wage laborers on construction sites, struggling to earn enough to provide for their children’s basic needs. Despite their hardships, Lhundup has a strong desire to attend school and become a doctor.

Recognizing the challenge, Lhundup’s parents decided to enroll him in the monastic primary school.

Lobsang is from Dholpo in Nepal. He is currently studying in Grade II at the monastic primary school. His parents work in their neighbor’s corn field and occasionally gather wood from the forest to sell in the village. Despite their challenging circumstances, Lobsang aspires to attend school and become a teacher.

Lobsang is currently in Grade VII. His parents work as porters to make ends meet. Despite surviving a massive earthquake that destroyed their home, they couldn’t afford to send Lobsang to a city private school due to financial constraints. Recognizing the need for education, senior monks admitted Lobsang to the monastery, providing him with the opportunity to study.

Lobsang hails from Pachung Village in Nepal. He has two older sisters and one younger sister. Lobsang is currently studying in Grade V.
