The Department of Education (DoE) is the central administrative body responsible for overseeing the educational affairs of Tibetan exiles. Established in 1960, the DoE provides crucial support to meet the educational and welfare requirements of numerous Tibetan refugee students across Tibetan schools in India, Nepal, and Bhutan. These educational institutions, which include both residential and day schools, cover pre-primary to senior secondary levels. Currently, the DoE oversees a total of 62 Tibetan schools, excluding the pre-primary sections and private schools, located in India and Nepal. These schools collectively serve over 15,000 students and employ around 2,000 staff members.
