Established in 1976, Drepung Gomang School is administered by Dre-Gomang Buddhist cultural Association (DGBCA). Over 300 monk students from age 7-18 study here modern education like English, mathematic, science besides traditional religious monastic studies. The classes are from 1st grade to VIIIth grade.

Tenzin Samphel

Tenzin, hails from Ladakh, and is currently in Grade III. His parents sustain themselves through farming and occasionally assist tourists during the trekking season. Tenzin joined Drepung Gomang Monastery in 2017.

Gyaltsen Chinba

Gyaltsen hails from Nepal and is currently studying in Grade III. Born to a poor family, Gyaltsen’s parents enrolled him in the monastery so that their son could have a meaningful life.  He joined Drepung Gomang Monastery in 2017 with other new monks from Nepal.

Gyaltsen Sherab

Gyaltsen hails from a humble family in a remote region of Nepal and is currently studying in Grade III.  Facing challenges in raising their children, his parents made the decision to send him to Drepung Gomang Monastery in 2017. They envision a better future for him through his monastic studies.

Gyalsen Monlam

Gyaltsen is currently studying in Grade III in Drepung Gomang Monastery. His family, relying on farming for their livelihood, faced significant challenges and resorted to sending him away to join the monastery.

Tenzin Thapkhe

Tenzin hails from a remote village in Bomdila, Arunachal Pradesh, India. He is currently studying in Grade IV. He started  on his journey at the monastery alongside his younger brother in 2016, both seeking traditional monastic studies.

Pema Phuntsok

Pema hails from a remote region of Montang, Bomdila. A Grade V student, Pema joined Drepung Gomang Monastery in 2015 to pursue traditional monastic studies. His parents earn their living by farming and raising livestock.

Stanzin Chosphel

Stanzin was born in Ladakh, and is currently studying in Grade VI. Initially, he joined a small monastery in his native place to become a monk but later joined Drepung Gomang Monastery in 2015 to pursue further monastic studies.

Gyaltsen Jigdrel

 Gyaltsen is from Bhutan and he joined Gomang School in 2016.  His family sustains themselves through farming and made the decision to send their son to pursue Buddhist monkhood at this esteemed center of learning.
