Dzongkar Choede Buddhist Culture Center is one of the oldest monasteries in Tibet. It was re-established in Hunsur, south India in 1972. In Tibet, it used to thrive as a spiritual and cultural center with over 600 monks. During the Chinese invasion, the monastery suffered severe damage and lost most of its monks, with less than 5% surviving. Today, Dzongkar Choede serves as a cultural hub, preserving Tibetan traditions such as chanting, ritual mask dances, and butter sculpture. It is home to approximately 300 monks who are also offered modern education.
