Tibetan Children’s Village in Ladakh was established in 1975 with the guidance and recommendation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The school has provided education to over 8000 Tibetan and Ladakhi children in the northern region of India. The main campus of TCV School is located in Choglamsar with two smaller schools in Leh and 3 branch schools in Jangthang at the Indo-Tibetan border. Due to the isolated location and uncultivable land, people make a living by rearing animals in nine Tibetan camps in the nomadic areas. Many families have also moved to the town to work on construction sites for a better future. Apart from providing traditional and modern education for the past 49 years, TCV School in Ladakh also preserves the rich tradition and culture of Tibetans. Since the location is situated in such a way that many villages remain unaffected by modernity, the school has the advantage of preserving the unique Tibetan culture and tradition.
