We work to improve the quality of teaching and learning through an innovative program of teacher-led, school-based professional development that reaches all 62 Tibetan schools in India and Nepal. Teachers participate in collaborative activities with their peers including book discussions, lesson study groups, classroom observations, expert talks and webinars. Teacher reading corners are stocked with books on education and pedagogy, and schools receive small grants for teacher-led group activities. Subject teachers also receive pedagogical training and participate in learning hubs that encourage peer learning. The Tibet Fund also supports teacher training and resources for Social Emotional and Ethical Learning (SEEL). Developed at Emory University, SEEL is an innovative, compassion-based educational approach that fosters emotional, social and ethical intelligence in students. We support training in SEE Learning methods for teachers at 14 Tibetan schools in India and 21 weekend language schools in North America.
